What a Week!

We were super busy creating, laughing, inventing, and most importantly learning last week.

One the favourite activities of the week was to plan, design and create a ship that would go faster than the Rebel ships. With our Star Wars theme in check, the students got to work planning their ship. The only criteria I gave them was that they had to use 2D and 3D shapes and only materials from our Makerspace cart in the Learning Commons. The planning phase proved to be quick and they were off to building. Using what we learned in Science, they realized that they had to give their ships a gentle force to make them fly. Some zoomed and some crashed but that's okay!

It's Wednesday already!!

Happy Wednesday everyone! Swim to Survive was once again a great success on Monday. You probably notice that the children are very tired on Monday evenings! We have one session left this upcoming Monday. Once again, thanks to the parent volunteers who have attended the sessions.

Our Geometry test will be postponed until next week. The student's need a little more practise!

We have started working on a quick Daily Language Review each day. This review is designed to help and teach spelling and grammar and sentence structure. Remember that a capital letter starts a sentence and there is always an "end mark' (period, question mark or exclamation mark" at the end of a sentence.

We learned that a force is a push or pull and investigated the many kinds of pushes and pulls we have in our daily lives.

This week we worked hard creating a snowman on our google drives on google drawings. They are becoming experts! After they created their snowman they wrote a descriptive paragraph describing the snowman and shared it with their peers.

Watch with Mom and Dad!

Here is a little video we watched this afternoon. It is a great way to start 2017. Please click HERE!

2017 is here!

Welcome back everyone! What a way to start our year off yesterday! The children LOVED Swim to Survive and can't wait to go back next Monday.

Image result for 2D 3D shapesThis week we are working on New Year resolutions and goals. The children worked hard yesterday to come up with goals that were attainable for them. We also discussed what a "Non-Negotiable" was in our classroom to start our year off right and have posted them in the room to be reminded everyday what those are. Some examples are "Try Something Once Before Giving Up" and "Take Pride in all your Work" We laughed about how such things as "brushing your teeth" is a non-negotiable at home!

Our spelling words for the week are: caught, little, your, you're and clock

In Math, we will continue to work on Geometry: 2D and 3D shapes and will aim to have a quiz towards the end of next week.

In Science, we continue to work on Forces and Motion.

Well it's the last Friday of our Christmas holidays! I miss you all terribly but am happy to have spent a wonderful two weeks with family and friends. Did I tell you all how PROUD I am of your Christmas concert performance! AMAZING! You did a wonderful job and thank you to all the parents and families who joined us on that day!

So NUMBER ONE JOB right now is to make sure that you all have your permission form back to school for this Monday, January 9th so that you can attend the very first Swim to Survive Program

If for some reason you cannot locate the permission form please click HERE for a copy.  Please remember to come to school on Monday with a swimsuit and towel.
