Wow What a Monday!

Wowsers! Grade 3A was super busy today. Our schedule was jam packed. We started out talking about adjectives and how they add to our writing. What then followed was amazing. Thanks to all the students who participated in the Adjective Fashion Show. The students walked down the red carpet with pizazz while their classmates gave a Level 4 description of how they walked, talked and looked.

Our day continued with lots of learning and fun. We worked on our BUILD Math centres. Some students worked directly with me, others played addition math games while others were solving word problems and checking their answers for accuracy with a QR code scanner.

I introduced the student's to Music Monday and we talked about Tempo, Pitch and Beat. We listened to the Monster Mash and the Hampster Dance. The students closed their eyes and moved their pencils to the music making some pretty neat masterpieces.

Finally, we ended the day with another lesson on Digital Citizenship. We learned how important it is to make a Digital Footprint that is safe. Internet safety is so important.

Oh and one more thing... we now have a very special VIP desk in our room. One student a day will be chosen to sit here when he/she works. The student has special privileges ands some pretty neat writing tools. They get to write about their experience as the VIP in our BEST DAY EVER class journal. This months VIP focus is Responsibility and Organization.  Our very first VIP was Kailyn! Congratulations!

Adjective Fashion Show!

Image result for red carpetOkay so we're 6 (or maybe 7) weeks into grade 3 and we are WRITING some great stories and sentences but there seems to be something missing! ADJECTIVES!!! On Monday we will be having a Grade 3A Fashion Show. Wear your favourite colour, scarf, hat, sparkling beads or hockey jersey! The sky is the limit. We will walk down the red carpet to some funky music all the while focusing on what YOU are wearing! We will be using our adjectives to describe exactly what you're wearing. You have 4 days to prepare boys and girls!  An event you will never forgot! I promise you will never ever forget to write adjectives again. They make your sentences better!! See you at the red carpet on Monday!

Today we surprised ourselves! We were working so hard during our Math Block that we decided to just keep on going into the next block. I was thrilled to see how excited the students were about creating their number patterns and learning how to properly describe them using "math words" such as increase, decrease and skip count. We also are taking full advantage of using all our vertical non-permanent work spaces. I know that's a education fancy word! It just means that we don't always use the traditional paper and pencil in our classroom to write our thinking and work on problems! The window writing is their favourite by far!

What Are We Up to this Week?

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. The children came back refreshed and ready to learn today. We had a Mass practice this morning and will be ready to go on Wednesday at 9:30 for our official Thanksgiving Mass.

This week we will wrap up our Place Value and Patterning unit. The students will be having a quiz on Friday. Rest assured that we have done many reviews in class and the students are ready to go! I will send home a quick review sheet before the quiz on Friday. The students really enjoyed playing number detective last week and were able to properly guess what number they were given by listening to place value clues. We were able to get outside to build a silent number line and take some pictures of all the Math around the St. Francis school yard. We will be moving onto addition and subtraction next week!

In Language, we are about ready to go with our Daily 5 stations. We will have a practice run on Wednesday! I can't wait to see how the students do in this fun and engaging literacy block! We have also started our "Ouch" narrative stories. I will let the children tell you all about these. So much fun!

Come and see the beautiful Fall art they created outside our classroom door, The students are learning about cool and warm colours and each created beautiful pieces for their portfolios.

Thanksgiving was a time to tell stories and reflect on why we are so grateful. Our interactive "Classbook" bulletin board is filled with reasons why we are thankful this year.  We are all so blessed!

ONE MORE THING... our Library day is on Monday's. A hard day to remember to return those library books. I will send out a REMIND to everyone on Sunday evenings.

Scholastic and Twitter

Happy Tuesday! Scholastic went home today. The orders are due next Friday, October 21st. If you take a look at our Twitter feed you will also notice that today we started a "Tweeter of the Day" Thank you Edmund for starting us off!

October is Here!

Welcome to the 2nd month of school! I posted our October Curriculum News. One thing I forgot to tell you last week was that we started reading buddies with Ms. Nancy's kindergarten class. It was so much fun and is such an amazing experience for both grades! The students will look forward to this reading activity. Here's to the start of a great and BUSY first week of October!
Noah reading about volcanoes with his buddy Noah! A coincidence?! I think not!
